Magnetic actuators & motors

Magnetic actuators use the force effect in the magnetic field to generate movements. The necessary magnetic field is generated by a coil and, if necessary, additional permanent magnets. There is a wide range of actuator types covering very broad areas of application. These include valves, linear actuators, relays, electric motors and many other types.

Cool Torque Motors

Our highly efficient Cool Torque motors are slow-running, gearless direct drives with high torque. The special feature compared to conventional torque motors is a patented motor principle that exceeds all efficiencies previously achieved on the market. No cooling is required, even under full load. The low moment of inertia and the high number of poles of the rotor result in very good concentricity and high dynamics. The elimination of the gearbox and the low speed minimize your maintenance effort and costs.

  • Options: With or without feedback, various encoder systems, such as magnetic and optical incremental encoders, SinCos, Endat or Hiperface, resolvers.

Fields of application

The applications of our cool-torque motors include extrusion equipment (e.g. film, sheets, profiles, pipes, blow molding machines, food, pasta/snacks), winders (e.g. textile, plastic or paper with dancer or torque control, center or circumferential winder), traction and lifting drives (e.g. hoists, cranes, high-bay warehouses, elevators), pumps, fans and ventilators (e.g. sewage treatment plants, cooling towers, compressors) and other applications (e.g. conveyor belts, tube lines, knitting and weaving machines, felting machines, machine tools, power plants for electricity generation, glass and rock wool production, shredders, mills). They are used whenever standard solutions (e.g. efficiency, torque, gear freedom) are not good enough for your application.

(A)-synchronous motors

Our synchronous motors and asynchronous motors are very compact and maintenance-free. The motors are equipped with neodymium magnets, which are characterized above all by significantly higher field strengths compared to ceramic magnets. This results in even more compact sizes and improved efficiency. Due to the very small mass inertias, these motors are ideally suited for dynamic applications.

Power: 0.8 kW ... 300 kW
Speed: up to 6.000 min-1
Size: 45 to 250
Ambient temperature: 0°C ... 40°C

Designs

  • Housing: IP23 (IC01, IC06) to IP65 (IC410, IC411, IC416 or ICW).
  • Fixtures: flange or foot type (B3, B5, B14 or combinations)
  • Options: with or without feedback, different encoder systems, like magnetic and optical incremental encoders, SinCos, Endat or Hiperface, resolver, with brake
  • Features: Increased bearing life due to plasma coated bearing seats

Fields of application

The applications of our (A)-synchronous motors range from the textile industry (e.g. winders, conveyor belts) to the food industry (e.g. extrusion lines, pumps). They are always used when standard solutions (e.g. ambient temperature, explosion protection, long-term stability) are not good enough for your application.

Electro magnets

An electro magnet typically consists of a coil in which a magnetic field is formed as a result of an electric current. The resulting force effect on ferromagnetic materials allows them to be used in a wide variety of applications. The magnetic force can be used to switch solenoid valves, actuate solenoids, hold safety devices, switch relays, or other applications.

Technical specifications

Duty cycle: up to 100%
Actuator powers: up to 100 kVA

  • Winding material: wire, stranded wire, high-frequency stranded wire, flat wire in copper and aluminum
  • Connections: free ends, terminals, connectors, wired, surface mountable
  • Construction: open, impregnated, potted, in housing

Fields of application

The applications of our electro magnets range from process technology in the form of solenoid valve actuators to safety technology in the form of safety electromagnets. They are always used when standard solutions (e.g. ambient temperature, explosion protection, long-term stability) are not good enough for your application.

Special drives

The area of special drives includes all drive types that do not correspond to a classic electric motor design. We can manufacture these drives according to your specifications and support you in the development for these drives. The magnetic field is always generated by coils of almost any geometry. Depending on the drive principle, permanent magnets or other coils are used. We are able to offer special rotary drives and special linear drives.

Technical specifications

Torque: up to 500 Nm
Speed: up to 5,000 min-1
Motor efficiency: up to 98%

Examples

Designs

  • Material: magnetic powder materials, nickel-iron materials, amorphous and nanocrystalline metals.
  • Winding material: wire, stranded wire, high-frequency stranded wire, flat wire in copper and aluminum
  • Connections: free ends, terminals, plugs
  • Construction: open, impregnated, potted, in housing

Fields of application

The applications of our special drives range from measurement technology to traffic engineering. They are always used when standard solutions (e.g. cogging torque, runout, power density) are not good enough for your application.

Stator windings

A stator is the fixed part of an electric motor. Its counterpart is the rotor. Basically, there is the possibility of an internal as well as an external stator. With our many years of experience in winding components, you benefit from our development and manufacturing know-how in the field of highly efficient stators. Special slot insulation, highly insulating winding wires or even highly compact structures are our particular strengths.

Technical specifications

Diameter: 20 mm .. 350 mm
Height: 10 mm .. 500 mm
wire diameter: 0,1 mm .. 3 mm
Insulation strength: up to 2.5 kV

Examples

Designs

  • Options: Air core coils for subsequent insertion into the stator pack, direct winding of the stator pack.
  • Construction: open, impregnated, encapsulated, in housing
  • Winding material: wire, stranded wire, high frequency stranded wire, flat wire in copper and aluminum
  • Connections: free ends, terminals, plugs

Fields of application

The applications of our stator windings are primarily in the field of transport technology - whether in the form of high-performance drives for locomotion or in the form of high-speed gyrocompass drives for navigation. They are always used when standard solutions (e.g. insulation strength, compactness, long-term stability) are not good enough for your application.

Other magnetic actuators

In addition to the magnetic actuators shown, the Pikatron Group also offers all other types of magnetic actuators. In some cases, it is only the terms that differ, but in others these are genuine special cases for which we can, of course, also help you. In all probability we can also help you with discontinued magnetic actuators of other manufacturers, if your application does not allow a fundamental renewal. But also for the update of your complete application we are at your disposal. Just contact us.
