Output filter

Output filters are installed downstream of power supplies - such as frequency converters - to attenuate the high-frequency components in the output signal. On the one hand, this is important in order to comply with the legal requirements for interference emissions, but on the other hand, it is also important to protect the insulation material in cables and especially in the connected device, usually a drive. Depending on the specific task, there are different types of output filters, which we would be pleased to offer you specifically tailored to your application.

du/dt filter

du/dt filters or chokes are designed as LC low-pass filters. The cut-off frequency of such a filter is higher than the pulse frequency. They are also used as output chokes for frequency converters and are a better alternative to motor chokes when high motor dynamics are required. Due to their design, they attenuate voltage peaks and thus protect the motor and the system. Furthermore, the filter reduces the motor temperature and thus increases the service life of the motor. Depending on the model, du/dt filters can be used with cable lengths of up to 300 meters. Unlike sinusoidal filters, they have a simpler design (values for L and C are lower) and are therefore cheaper in price.

Sinusoidal filter

Sinusoidal filters or sinusoidal EMC filters support the shaping of the output voltage of the frequency inverter into a sinusoidal voltage. Due to their high switching frequencies, frequency converters generate high electrical interference signals on the motor supply line. These not only disturb the consumer, but also increase the insulating load on the motor. The sinusoidal filter reduces these interference signals, attenuates the voltage peaks and improves electromagnetic compatibility. This increases the service life of a motor. Here, the filters are connected between the frequency converter and the motor in the motor cable.

Filter circuit chokes

Filter circuit reactors are used to protect reactive current compensation systems against overloads caused by interference levels in medium and low-voltage networks. Here, undefined resonance increases are avoided by tuning the series resonant circuit to a non-critical frequency. Filter circuit chokes are characterized by the fact that they have a low inductance tolerance.

Common mode filter

Common-mode filters suppress unwanted electromagnetic common-mode signals. They are used in high-frequency technology in transmission and antenna technology for the suppression of superimposed RF interference signals. The interference signals can occur when the matching between balanced and unbalanced signals is not correct. Common-mode filters are found in high-speed interfaces such as the USB interface to ensure electromagnetic compatibility between the interface and the peripheral device.

LCL output filter

Any system transmitting power to the grid must meet certain output specifications for harmonic content. In voltage-fed systems such as modern photovoltaic inverters, or in any regenerative system, a high-order LCL filter typically provides harmonic attenuation while reducing the overall size of the design compared to a simpler filter. For all types of power sources where a generated current is to be fed back into the power grid, such LCL or LC filters are needed. However, since it is a higher order filter, care must be taken in the design to avoid resonance.

Technical specifications

Rated voltage: 250 VAC ... 520 VAC
Rated current: 1 A ... 1,000 A
Rated frequency: 50 Hz ... 60 Hz
Pulse frequency: 8 ... 50 kHz
Leakage current: 0 mA to 1,300 mA
Attenuation: up to over 100 dB

Designs

  • Two-wire line filter (L1, N), three-wire line filter (L1, L2, L3), four-wire line filter (L1, L2, L3, N)
  • Damping resistor to prevent vibrations
  • Device line filter with overvoltage protection
  • With high-quality rod core choke also in high-cant winding technology
  • For high requirements up to 1,000 A

Fields of application

The applications of our LCL output filters range from power supply and photovoltaics to all regenerative systems. They are always used when standard solutions (e.g. attenuation, design, dielectric strength, higher pulse frequency) are not good enough for your application.

Other output filters

In addition to the output filters shown, the Pikatron Group also offers all other output filter types. In some cases, it is only the terms that differ, but in others these are genuine special cases for which we can, of course, also help you. In all probability we can also help you with discontinued output filters of other manufacturers, if your application does not allow a basic renewal. But we are also at your disposal for updating your entire application. Just contact us.
