Mains filter

A mains filter is an assembly that limits electrical interference, mainly symmetrical (also known as differential mode), asymmetrical (also known as common mode) and asymmetrical (normal mode) interference from electronic equipment into the public power supply network, as well as improving the electromagnetic compatibility of electrical equipment against interference from the power supply network. The EMC Directive specifies permissible limits for local installations, which you can comply with using our EMC mains filters.

DC filter

Our DC filters or DC line filters are used to suppress interference on DC lines. This is particularly useful in critical networks, when high currents on the protective conductor are to be avoided. These DC filters are used, for example, in photovoltaics. In addition to some common filter types, we can develop almost any DC filter for you. Just contact us.

Top-hat rail line filter

Fast switch-on processes, such as those caused by MOSFET, IGBT or SiC power switches, generate a broad interference spectrum in the high kHz and low MHz range. The line filters act as a low-pass filter in this case. The low frequencies of 50 Hz/ 60 Hz pass, high frequency interference is attenuated. Film capacitors with self-healing properties provide high resistance to voltage spikes. Good attenuation characteristics are achieved by high quality current compensated toroidal chokes. Radio interference suppression in the control cabinet has thus become much easier. Our range of SSF filters eliminates the need for time-consuming screwing of line filters. These filters are snapped onto the top-hat rail and connected to the device to be suppressed.

Technical specifications

Rated voltage: 250 VAC ... 520 VAC
Rated frequency: 50 Hz ... 60 Hz
Rated current: 1 A .. 60 A
Cut-off frequency: 14 kHz ... 30 MHz
Attenuation: up to over 70 dB
Ambient temperature: -40°C ... +40°C
Test voltage: up to 4 kV

  • SSF300: Mains filter for three-phase systems (L1, L2, L3)
  • SSF300D: additionally with phase sequence detection for three-phase systems

The applications of our EMC top-hat rail line filters range from machine and plant engineering, power supply to renewable energies. They are always used when standard solutions are not good enough for your application, e.g. with regard to mounting, attenuation, dielectric strength,... are not good enough for your application.

Filter cabinets

Our filter cabinets are high quality line filters with feedthrough capacitors and inductors built up in a control cabinet. The circuit is designed as a balanced double-π circuit. High-quality rod core coils are used as inductors, which do not show any saturation behavior due to their large air gap and behave insensitively with unbalanced loads. High-quality capacitors ensure a long service life even with sporadically occurring voltage peaks. 100 dB insertion loss is achieved from 14 kHz. These high performance filters are offered as two-wire, three-wire or four-wire (three phases and neutral). The N conductor is always attenuated. The strings are decoupled from each other so that they can be operated individually without loss of attenuation. Input connections can be made at the top or bottom of the cabinet on bus bars. Output connections on the output side can be made at the top or bottom of the cabinet in an RF shielded chamber on busbars or copper connections.

Technical specifications

Rated currents: 150 A ... 2,000 A
Rated frequencies: 50 Hz ... 60 Hz
voltages: DC ... 10 kVAC
Insertion loss: up to 100 dB
Protection class: IP20

Designs

  • Two-wire mains filter (L1, N), three-wire mains filter (L1, L2, L3), four-wire mains filter (L1, L2, L3, N)
  • Temperature monitoring: On request with fans, which are switched on and off via temperature switches.
  • Door limit switch: For external shutdown, door limit switches are installed on request in order to release the system.

Fields of application

The applications of our filter cabinets range from power supply, safety engineering to renewable energies. They are always used when standard solutions are not good enough for your application, e.g. with regard to power, connection type, dielectric strength,... are not good enough for your application.

Cabin line filter

Cabin line filters are high-quality line filters in a three-chamber housing. The circuit is predominantly designed as a balanced double-pi circuit. High-quality rod core coils are used as inductors, which show only a low saturation behavior due to their large air gap and are insensitive to unbalanced loads. Due to their self-healing effect, film capacitors ensure a long service life even with sporadically occurring voltage peaks. Of importance is a seamless attachment of the filter to the shielded compartment. The widened bottom plate allows a circumferential screw fixing with the grounded mounting wall. This series is offered as two-wire (phase and neutral) or four-wire (three phases and neutral). The N conductor is always attenuated. The strings are decoupled from each other so that they can be operated individually without loss of attenuation. Line connections on the input and output sides are encapsulated as threaded bolts under an RF cover.

Mains chokes

A mains choke is often connected between the supply network and the frequency inverters. These mains chokes smooth current peaks caused by the high-frequency current consumption of the inverter. Furthermore, they reduce harmonics and relieve the supply network by compensating for the distortion reactive power. In this way, legal requirements are met and the interference immunity of your system is increased. Do you need individual advice? Please do not hesitate to contact us.

Other mains filters

In addition to the mains filters shown, the Pikatron Group also offers all other mains filter types. In some cases, it is only the terms that differ, but in others these are genuine special cases, for which we can of course also help you. In all probability we can also help you with discontinued mains filters of other manufacturers, if your application does not permit a fundamental renewal. But we are also at your disposal for updating your entire application. Just contact us.
